Supporting all
lives to flourish

by connecting people and culture to the land

Fionnlocha Wild Nature Sanctuary is an artist-led regenerative Land, People and Culture Project that will be based on a beautiful wildlife corridor in the Heart of Ireland in Co. Roscommon.

The land is already amazingly rich in biodiversity, with a lake at one end, and a river running alongside that feeds into the River Shannon, which leads through the heartlands and out to the sea.

This is the perfect location for an Irish Land Regeneration project. The longer term vision is to become a charity and place the land in a Trust, with the potential to obtain more land around the lake, and connect with nature corridors through the whole country and beyond eventually. See the Remembrance Corridors project here.

The project is led by Lexington Lovesmyth (Lex) CEO, Artist/Land/Movement, Wildlife Gardener and Designer, supported by Annette Corkery (Herby) of Scéalta Beo, Heritage in Schools Specialist, artist and storyteller. Both are also Permaculture designers and educators.

Fionnlocha Wild Nature Sanctuary is inspired by projects such as the Weald to Waves 100 mile wildlife corridor proposed from the Knepp Rewilding project. Lex is already the designer for a community garden and seed bank project where this corridor meets the sea in Newhaven, UK.

A lone hawthorn tree, which has great significance in Irish folklore, is also a keystone species for biodiversity, supporting 100s of different insects and providing nest sites and food for a variety of birds and small mammals. This one is flourishing in the winter flood plain at Fionnlocha Wild Nature Sanctuary. Wetland habitats like this are increasingly rare and extremely important for many migrating birds and other endangerd creatures.
